Our Story
Hangry’s was started because we, Chad Edwards and Marian Bittner, wanted a way to work together. We wanted to implement Marian’s creativity with food, as well as make good use of the experience that she earned at the Culinary Institute of America. Our dream was to serve familiar but interesting and delicious food. At first we thought about opening a restaurant but decided that required too much investment for us at the time. Then, Chad started researching food trucks and we settled on a local food truck builder and opened in September of 2016.
Food trucks were a completely different dynamic than restaurants. They introduce a whole new set of challenges for small business owners to contend with. We learned a lot through trial and error but continued to grow and expand. We purchased two new trailers and brought in Wesley Bittner as a partner and to help manage. In January, 2024 we opened a beautiful new restaurant on East Little Creek Road. We are proud to offer made from scratch breakfast and lunch as well as craft cocktails from our full bar. We love what we do and our wonderful staff have been a huge part in our success. We at Hangry’s are committed to high standards of quality, consistency and to serving flavorful food that is skillfully prepared.
So where where did the “Hangry’s” name come from you might ask? Well, that’s just how Chad gets sometimes and it also just so happens to be the name that he came up with while we were brainstorming ideas! When you’re hungry enough to be angry about it, hangry is what you are, and Hangry’s is where you should head!
Our Story
Hangry’s was born because we, Chad Edwards and Marian Bittner, wanted a way to work together. We wanted to implement Marian’s creativity with food, as well as make good use of the experience that she earned at the Culinary Institute of America. Our dream was to serve familiar but interesting and delicious food. First, we tried a couple of ideas for a sit-down restaurant that didn’t pan out. After that, Chad began to research food trucks. After much conversation while sitting on the sofa together throughout the long winter nights of 2015, we settled on a local food truck builder.
Food trucks were a completely different dynamic than the restaurants that Marian had previously owned and/or been a Chef at. They introduce a whole new set of challenges for small business owners to contend with. First, our menu was too ambitious for the food truck that we had built. Right out of the gate, we had to buy all new equipment and convert to gas because we needed much more power than we initially estimated we would. After our first disastrous night out, Chad thought about driving the trailer off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel! We persevered though! Marian had to learn how to pull the trailer, including backing it up when necessary and frequently had to call Chad away from his day job to help with mechanical problems. Chad also learned a great deal about food prepping, (he shed many tears over the onions) while he also learned how to cook on the line.
While learning through trial and error, we probably shocked more than a few people on occasion with our swearing and yelling on the food truck ! Growing pains aside, and after some careful discussion and process refinement, Hangry’s has continued to develop and expand. We have since opened our takeout location while simultaneously increasing our catering capabilities. Also, ever since Antrion joined our team, his help has made our responsibilities much easier to manage. We are proud to have entered our fifth year of business while continuing to provide the best food and service possible!
